JD and Jacob, you did most of the work because it involved using the stove and melting salt and different things, and the girls are still a little too young to do things on the stove top.
Here's the finished product before we decided to add food coloring. We made the first crystals with table salt and the second ones with alum. The table salt takes a few days, but the alum only takes a couple of hours.
In just a couple of hours, here's what we had made...
We even made some for Granna. We made hers purple because that's her favorite color. Wouldn't you know, hers actually grew better and bigger than the ones we made for us.
I think our experiment turned out great. We hung our crystals in the kitchen window for a few days. By the way, the food coloring did nothing but color the cotton string. We were hoping that our crystals would also turn colors, but that didn't happen.
