Christian Service

One thing that mommy feels very passionate about is service.  I believe that Jesus Christ came and humbled himself as a servant, and the least we can do to honor Him is to serve.  I cannot tell you guys how important that this is to me and your dad.  What are we, and what are we doing if we don't get involved in serving-whether I'm serving you guys at home, we are serving in our local church, or doing various service projects in our community.  We need (especially in this day and time) to show the love of Christ through our service to our community and ultimately the world.

Well, this week presented a unique opportuntity for us and we jumped right on board.  The Atlanta Food Bank sent a tractor trailer truck full of boxes of food to the church where we are fortunate enough to have CHAT.  Our church and the Church at Liberty Square (where we meet for CHAT) was responsible for unloading and bagging all of the food.  You guys are too young for that project, but CHAT decided to sponsor lunch for all of the workers.  What a special project to be a part of- and you guys were required to do everything except cook the food.  That was a job for all of us moms.

When I told you all what was going on, you were more than eager and excited to help.  We joined up with several other CHAT families and served hot dogs, chili, coleslaw, chips, and cookies to about 50 workers.  Each of you had your own jobs assigned to you.

Luci- you and your friend, Emily had the privilege of handing out the hot dogs to each person that came through the line. You even wore plastic gloves- you loved that!

JD, Christopher, and Jacob- you were responsible for the clean-up of the paper plates, napkins, and cups.  That was definitely a nice change for you guys.  You usually don't like to clean up, but today, you did a marvelous job.

Audrey- you and Joanna were responsible for drinks.  You took orders and she filled the glasses.  You guys made a great team.  You also were responsible for getting the refills.  Both of you did a great job.

Tabernacle Baptist and Church at Liberty Square had the awesome privilege to serve over 1,300 families that day.  I'm so thankful that we had a small part in that- may God get all of the Glory!

After a hard day's work, you all were able to enjoy a little lunch of your own...well deserved, I might add!

God's word says "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.  Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.  If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.  To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever."  
I Peter 4: 8-11

You guys were living and active representatives of the scriptures this day.  The Lord has so richly blessed us with good health, good attitudes and a heart for service.  I am so thankful we were able to put this scripture into practice- for Him!!  You all showed the love of Christ to a needy world,without grumbling and complaining,  and I couldn't have been more proud of you!!
